This was our last full day in Ireland. We had another leisurely morning - most
up by 9am. John and Sheila strolled over to Piece of Cake for scones and rhubarb
pie. After milling about for a briefer than usual time, we set out for Carlow
to see largest dolman - the Brownhill
dolman - in all of Europe.
Kilkenny! Our favorite city visited on this trip. It has a large castle with
much history:
And a lovely, busy towncenter with narrow streets, colorful storefronts, ancient alleyways, sidewalks filled with teenagers and other varieties of shoppers.
We scattered and spent a couple hours doing our last minute (and, for most of us, the only) shopping. Met back at Martin's Mill for beverages.
Then drove back home.
Supper at Burke's - our last.
Featured a back flop by a patron at the bar, cracking his skull against the wooden floor. ("Ah, you're seeing the best of Ireland" commented Mr Burke as we helped the poor gent to a sitting position.)
The divide-by-twelve experience.
We spent an hour or so adding, dividing, and checking all our receipts and then allocating everyone's fair share. It was actually fun figuring it out - and we relived each day as we did our figuring.
Life's best with family beside
They can ease life's trouble-filled ride
And tis best I do think
If you share food & drink
And by twelve all your problems divide
When we were done, we figured out who had to pay who to balance things out. Then headed out for our last visit to Burke's pub in Dunlavin - live music!
Yet another Theresa and her sister singing did some of the singing while the local men provided the instrumental portion.
Finally, back to the houses to pack for our morning departure.
